Tax Receipt in Pocket — Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 25, 2026
Overview
Tax Receipt in Pocket is an offline-first app for capturing tax receipts. Your receipts live on your device and in your own Photos library. There are no user accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising.
Data we do not collect
The app does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
- Personal information (name, email, phone number)
- Location data
- Contacts
- Browsing or usage history
- Advertising or tracking identifiers
The app contains no analytics SDKs, no tracking SDKs, and no third-party advertising. The developer does not receive your receipts or your totals unless you deliberately turn on sync and point it at a server (see below).
What is stored on your device
- Receipt records (supplier, date, description, amount, GST, category, entity, ABN, notes) are stored in a database inside the app.
- Receipt photos are saved to your own Photos library, and organised into albums by entity and financial year. They belong to you: deleting the app does not delete them.
- Entity details you enter (business name, ABN, GST registration).
- Settings, including the server address and access token if you configure sync.
Photos access
The app asks for permission to add photos to, and read photos from, your library. This is used only to save each captured receipt, file it into the correct album, and display it inside the app. Photos are never uploaded anywhere unless you turn on sync.
Camera access
The camera is used only to photograph receipts, at the moment you tap the shutter. Nothing is recorded or streamed.
Optional sync, backup, and AI extraction
Sync is off until you configure it in Settings with a server address and an access token. It is not required to use the app.
If you turn it on:
- Receipt records and receipt images are sent to the server you configured, where they are stored so they can be restored to a new device.
- Receipt images may be sent to an AI provider (OpenAI) so the supplier, date, amount, GST, and category can be read off the photo automatically. The image and the extracted text are processed to return that result. Receipt images can contain whatever is printed on them, so please consider this before enabling extraction for sensitive purchases.
- Currency conversion uses published European Central Bank reference rates via the Frankfurter service. Only the currency pair and the date are looked up, never your amounts.
If you never configure sync, the app makes no network requests and works fully offline.
Data sharing and selling
Your data is never sold, rented, or shared with data brokers, advertisers, or any third party for marketing. The only third party that can receive receipt content is the AI provider named above, and only when you enable sync.
Data retention and deletion
- Deleting a receipt in the app removes the record from your device. The original photo stays in your Photos library until you delete it there.
- If sync is enabled, deleting the app or asking for deletion removes the synced copy from the server. Email the address below to request deletion of anything held server-side.
- Tax records often need to be kept for five years or longer under Australian Taxation Office rules. The app never deletes your receipts automatically.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above is updated and the revised policy is published on this page.
