Frequently asked
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Capture a receipt and it is saved.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Capture, editing, browsing, and totals all work offline. Sync and AI extraction are optional extras that need a connection.
Where do my receipt photos go?
Into your own Photos library, filed into albums by entity and financial year,
for example Tax Receipts → Brainies FY2026. They stay there even if you
delete the app.
Which financial year does a receipt land in?
The Australian financial year that contains the date printed on the receipt, not the day you photographed it. So a receipt dated 28 June belongs to the year ending that 30 June, even if you photograph it in July. Receipts dated near 30 June are flagged so you can double-check.
Why can’t I confirm a receipt?
The Australian Taxation Office requires written evidence to show the supplier, the amount, what was bought, and the date. If any of those are missing, the app asks for them before letting you confirm.
What is the warning about a tax invoice?
For purchases over $82.50 including GST, you generally need a valid tax invoice showing the supplier’s ABN in order to claim the GST credit. If a receipt is over that threshold, has GST, and has no ABN, the app flags it.
I photographed the same receipt twice
The app detects duplicates, keeps both images, and counts only one, so your totals stay correct. If the repeat was deliberate (you really did buy the same thing twice), open the receipt and choose Count Anyway.
How do I give the spreadsheet to my accountant?
On the Dashboard, tap the share button. Choose a full financial year or a single BAS quarter, and optionally include every receipt photo in the bundle. Send the result by email or AirDrop. Photo file names match the Receipt ID column in the spreadsheet.
How do I get my receipts onto a new phone?
If sync is switched on, install the app, enter the same server address and token in Settings, and your entities and receipts are pulled back down. Images come from your Photos library when it is available, and from the server copy when it is not.
How do I delete my data?
Delete individual receipts in the app, or delete the app to remove everything stored on the device. Original photos remain in your Photos library until you delete them there. For anything held on a server, email the address above.
