Reader — Support
Reader is a personal file reader for iPhone and iPad. It serves the files on your Mac to your devices over your own private network, and reads Markdown, HTML, images, and PDFs natively.
Getting started
- Run the Reader server on your computer (it serves a folder of your choice).
- Make it reachable from your device over your private network (for example, with Tailscale).
- In the app, open Settings, enter your server URL and token, then tap Test Connection.
No server yet? Open the app and tap Try the Demo (or turn on Demo Mode in Settings) to explore Reader with built‑in sample notes, no setup required.
Requirements
- iPhone or iPad on iOS / iPadOS 17 or later.
- A computer running the Reader server, reachable from your device over a private network you control.
Common questions
Where is my data stored? On your own computer and device. Reader does not upload your files anywhere. See the Privacy Policy.
Is it secure? Your token is stored in the iOS Keychain and sent only to the server you configure. Keep the server on a private network (e.g. Tailscale) rather than exposing it directly to the internet.
Can I edit files? Yes, Reader supports light editing of text and Markdown files, with a conflict check if the file changed on the server.
