Snap a receipt. Forget about it until tax time.
An offline-first iPhone app for Australian tax receipts, built for people who run their own thing: sole traders, contractors, and small companies with more than one entity to keep straight.
Why it exists
Shoeboxes and camera rolls lose receipts. Faded thermal paper loses itself. At tax time you are left reconstructing a year of spending from a bank statement, guessing at what was deductible, and hoping the ATO never asks.
This app fixes the capture step, because that is the step people actually skip. One tap, and the receipt is filed, dated, and counted.
What it does
Capture in one tap. The camera opens on launch. Pick the entity once and it stays picked. Snap, and the receipt is saved, filed, and counted.
Your photos stay yours. Every receipt is saved into your own Photos library
and auto-filed into albums by entity and financial year (Tax Receipts → Brainies FY2026). Delete the app tomorrow and your originals are still there.
Works with no signal. Capture, edit, browse, and read your totals with aeroplane mode on. There is no spinner between you and a saved receipt.
Australian financial years, done properly. Receipts are filed by the date printed on the receipt, not the day you photographed it, so a 28 June purchase lands in the right year. Receipts near 30 June are flagged so you can check.
Multiple entities. Keep personal, a company, and a trust apart, each with its own ABN and GST registration. Totals never mix.
ATO written-evidence checks. A receipt cannot be confirmed until it has the supplier, the amount, what was bought, and the date. Purchases over $82.50 with GST but no ABN are flagged, because that is when you need a proper tax invoice.
Duplicate protection. Photograph the same receipt twice and the app keeps both images but counts one, so your totals stay honest. You can override it.
Import from anywhere. Email receipts and PDF invoices come in through the share sheet, the Actions list, or a Shortcut, and are filed like any capture.
Spreadsheet for your accountant. Export a financial year or a single BAS quarter as a spreadsheet, optionally bundled with every receipt photo, named to match the rows.
Optional sync and AI extraction. Connect it to a server and receipts back up automatically, with the supplier, date, amount, GST, and category read off the photo for you, and foreign currency converted at the receipt date. Leave it switched off and the app is a fully local app that never talks to the internet.
